I am looking into airbrushing. I know someone that is awesome with using an airbrush that can teach me exactly how to use and maintain one.

I am going to be using a liquid mask. I have never used one before and that seems the way to go for better lines. How exactly do you start? Do you cover the whole body in the mask and then cut it out from there on what you are going to paint first and so on?

What is a good paint to use on the lexan bodies? I am sure I will have more questions that I will post as they come.

Thanks
I coat the entire inside of the body with Bob Divley liquid mask (have tried other brands and found that BD works the best). Just brush it on in fairly thick coats (usually 2 sometimes 3) letting each coat thoroghly dry. Plan ahead for everything and start spraying your colors darkest to lightest. As far as paint goes, I use Parma Faskolor and Createx Auto Air colors. Back up you final designs with a bright color like silver or white and then I use 2 coats of Faskoat which dries clear and flexible to seal it all up from fuel and help to protect it from scratching. Hope this helps.
I use 4-5 fairly light coats of liquid mask, I use the Parma stuff, but it is identical to the bob dively's. Do like ORC said and go darkest to lightest if possible, however if you back your light colors with a coat or two of white you should not have a problem. LAquer chrome you have to back in black, and I also like to back some Blue's and even reds in black to give them a different look. I use the faskolor stuff, but I will use some laquer or other stuff here and there for certain things. To finish everything off I back it with 2 coats of rustoleum crsytal clear enamel which makes the body fuel proof and makes them last longer IMO
Thanks
Those are the only two sources of advice you need, right there. Mike and Jerry.

Mike, does that flattery move me up your list at all? Big Grin
no but maybe a 1 k loan would do the trick Smile Wink
Loan...not gift...ok, loans I can do. Just don't make me send Moose and Rocco over to help you find your checkbook at the end of the month.
How do you do the carbon fiber look? Do you need to just cut out each individual little square?
Loan him $1000 and he'll tell you.... use rubber bar mat material as a mask.

Cut yourself out 1500 pieces of 1/16" x 1/32" masking tape and start weaving them together in a diagonal pattern....

Wink
ORC LOL be nice! haahhaha goto any local hardware store and pick up some shelf or drawer liner, try to get the stuff with longer rectangles so it looks less like a checkerboard, I have goudn that pearl gold and pearl charcoal give the most realistic look, but u can always mix and match colors, black and silver give a more prominent effect
....and if i had to cut out each square, I would charge atleast 1,000$ a paint job LOL
You know I was kiddin' Smile
i know u were joking Wink

ook no more insider secrets for tonight Smile LOL

Thanks. I don't want it the colors of carbon fiber, I just want that design, but I will keep the colors in mind because I am sure I will try it.
For $20 you can also buy a CF template.
Dave, do you have a link? I am just wondering what it looks like.
some good stuff their dave i will save that for future reference, I think the matting gives u a better look tho just IMO
and cheaper and easier to work with im sure
Dave good link indeed. You can also get drawer liners at $dollar store LOL!!! Smile works good for the CF look.
I went to a couple hobby shops to check out air brushes and to see what kind of paint they have. Both that I went to, carry the faskolor paint.

Should I start out with a single or dual action brush? I also picked up some of the BD liquid mask. Is it better to spray or brush it on?
Save urself the headaches and get a good dual action airbrush,

I would recommend the Revolution CR

What does that one come with? Is there anything else that I would need if I got that one. I can't find a description on it. That price beats the one single action ones I was looking at.
