Just wanted to get a few opinions on this situation.

I sold my BB Revo about a month ago and recently recieved an e-mail from the buyer stating that he can't get it to run, won't idle when it's warmed up, says he took it to two hobby shops and they tried to tune it for an hour and it has no compression left.

This engine (OS VZB.21) ran great when I sold it. Wheelies like crazy, 215-220 temps steady all day....turned over by hand with little resistance, but always ran strong.

I don't sell junk, and honestly feel bad...but this thing has been gone for a few months now...and now he saying he never got a chance to run it until recently. He says couldn't find my contact info to lmk sooner.
If he waited a few months then its his problem. People got to inspect and try there stuff out right after they get it and then report back if they have any problems. A few months is way to long and his own problem. He probly ran it into the ground and is now complaining. I would just let him know he should have come back to you within a week of recieving it and reported any issues and just tell him its been to long and he doesnt know if its been driven before or not.
Sounds fishy to me, like he burned up the engine and now he's trying to scam you.
Do you know the guy?
How did the transaction go down?
Being that it was over a month ago, he cant take the payment back, right?
If so, I'd tell him it ran fine when he bought it, its been two months, its his word against yours, he is SOL Big Grin
Yeah IDK it just doesn't sound right. I wouldn't do anything...Hey there's a cool button called "Block Adress" on your email account, and I'm pretty sure you can do the same thing on most message boards lol....
I would just tell him he waited to long and now it sounds fishy. Im sure he can understand that. Just say something like if you would have came to me right after you got the truck with any problems I would have done something but not after a few months.
That's kinda what I was thinking...I checked the B/S/T post here and it was just over a month ago (3/6/06) He's not a local (from FL) and I didn't know him, it was an internet deal (not Ebay) we set it up via e-mail and a few phone calls, paid with Paypal, and shipped out UPS.
Some of you guys had seen it run, youv'e seen my other r/c's..and I stand behind my stuff. It might be a different story if it was a local guy...but think I would have to agree with your guys opinions.

yeah I have seen the revo you sold to kyle and that thing looks sweet.............I wolud just say its too late and that he should have called you a long time ago, also you said you talked on the phone..........so that means he had your phone number and should have called you within the week he bought it from you.

but we all know that you dont sell junk
Yeah man...That thing had lots of power!

Haha offer him a repinch off of ebay-you cover half-he covers half! (It's like $15 lol)
Anything you buy sight unseen is a crapshoot. Help him all you can to get it to run, but that's all you can do, really. Unless you guys agreed to a "return if not happy" clause...he owns it.
I had it dialed in because it was for sale locally...I was hoping a local would pick it up but...
Most people know that items in this hobby are sold as is. I've gotten taken before and know how it feels, but I'm reluctant to make good after someone has run it for however long and then claims it's no good. It would be different if I hadn't personally ran it just before selling. Obviously it would have to be re-tuned to run in Florida compared to Chicago but that shouldn't have been an issue. I wish I had some video of the "shift into second gear wheelies" to prove how awsome that thing ran.
You had 2nd gear wheelies? I've only dreamed of those w/ my truck! I've seen one other truck do it, that was a dual, or was it quadruple engine savage!
It would lift the front wheels about 2 inches off the ground when it would shift into second on the cold dead grass with 16/36 gearing!!
And it was a .21!!!
I'd say that he's SOL. Been too long.
Revo2K did have a good idea, tell him you'll give him $15 for a pinch and he'll just have to pay shipping to get the sleeve pinched. Maybe it'll make you both feel better. Smile
Yeah, I e-mailed him with an offer to send the engine back to me, I will have it sent in for a pinch at no cost to him...just waiting to see what he says....if he doesn't take that, he's out of luck. I think that's more than fair.
I would just send him the $15 and be done with it.

MORE THAN fair....if he balks at that, he's BS'ing and nibbling for money back without any proof.

Ditto!
Wow Jerry. I would have still gave out good words reguarding your sales even without you saying that. I bet he just cooked the motor. You don't sell crap. I hope everything works out for you guys...
The guy may not have even run it, and is asking for money. If he is threatening your good name, some folks would rather settle it than have the damage to their reputation. If he's a scammer, he won't want to ship you back the motor to allow you to verify it. Or, next he will pull the "I shipped it. Did UPS lose it?" line of BS. Be very careful and document it all from here.
personally I'd either say SOL, period.
OR
Send him $15 and be done with it.

I would never have him ship the motor back to me, that's asking for it.
I agree wit tex... Offer to paypal him 15 bucks or whatever Half an OS Rocket pinch costs and tell him Take it or leave it
I agree he is SOL. Don't send him $15.00. If he'll send you the engine back for inspection, make sure to get a tracking number. Then take it from there. But I say : "No Way Jose!" Next time you sell an item. Explicitly indicate that: Items are sold as is. All sales are final, no refunds. There is no warranty offered, express or implied. The selling party will not be held liable in the event of failure.
All good points! Advise well taken. It's not that he's threatening anything (reputation or otherwise) it's just a pride feeling on my behalf...I am willing to make it right, but I won't be shafted just because I'm a nice guy.
