Why not just get broadband? Comcast always has the special where you get their basic cable and broadband for $50 a month total.
They are getting the Cable, phone, and Internet all from one place. With a little "price comparison", I think they found it to be a little cheaper this way. I know DSL is a little slower than broadband, but I haven't really seen that much of a difference from having both. Considering he is coming from dial-up, it will be WWWWAAAAAYYYYYY faster than he is used to.
I get DSL 1024 down and 768 up for 39.99 a month. But I prepaid for 18 months with a company out of boston called cyberonic.com. I don't know if they offer that anymore. But they run on the worldcom backbone. Most of my downloads are a sustained 152KB per sec or higher. The problem with cable is you share the Dslam with everyone in your area, like a local network. Makes it much easier for Identity thieves to get your info. Plus if everybody is on at the same time you are, your speeds drop to the fastest capable speed by the network.
How true about the "node on a LAN" syndrome. It slows down at 3:30 and 6:30pm....hmmmm.
Im back!! whats up yall!! im loving this cable internet!! it is the high speed. the town house is turning out great so far! and the baby is only days away. ill have pics as soon as we get the place cleaned up. i had to take a week off work, i got hit in the eye by a bungy cord. eye filled with blood, and i was temp blind in the left eye, but im alot better now.
ouch, eye injury, not good. hope it's 100% soon.

3,500+. my eye will never be 100%. its dialated and they dont know if the mucles in my iris will ever work again. but i can see fine, just have to were sunglasses outside. the doc expected to have to operate on me, but he didnt. a week of bed rest, with no cable, no internet, and no reading. it was boring as all hell!!
