There are 60 members on this board. How many people are into RC cars/trucks in the Chicagoland? Any idea?
Probably thousands. I think most of them just bash in their
back yards. I personally know about 15 people who have
decent R/C equipment and would never join a club,
messageboard or go to a race.

Just curious, but why are you asking?

I just want to know because I don't really know anybody at work who is into this hobby. Also, none of my neighbor is into it either. So, I just want to see if RC is popular in Chicagoland or not.

It was the same for me... At first, I was a little hesitant of my co-workers finding out I play with "Toys", but once I started talking about it, and bringing my trucks to work, a lot of them are very interested in getting involved.
yeah I thought that I would never get together with anyone to "play trucks with" but after getting the truck and finding boards such as this one and others its gotten really addictive. I have even had a fellow co-worker purchase a REVO lately, another co-worker wanting one real bad and my brother who likes mine and wants me to build him a truck. Its not cheap, but its also only as expensive as you want it to be if you do your research.
I know of a few people that have rc cars built to look like a car they drove, or a car that they really want. They are more shelf queens than anything.
I have yet to actually met anyone that is into RC by me. Sure I get a lot people that come up to me when Im out driving my truck around, "hey thats cool, blah blah", but nobody around me actually has one. My brother in law has his truck but hes over an hour away from me and is never at home (workaholic). I would imagine its a hell of a lot more fun bashing with a group of people rather then by yourself.

We'll see though. Im sure someone will buy one around here eventually. I bought one of those mini-bikes that look like a crotch rocket. Me and my boys road that around for a few months and now there are like 5 other guys in the area that have one.

I did bring my truck to work(to a park close to work actually) to show it to my co-worker during lunch time. He was having a blast driving it around. He wanted to get one. However, once I told him how much I put into it. He was like...that is expensive Sad
there are a lot of backyeard bahers out there. I know of about 5 or 6 other guys that have Nitro Rc's and only drve them around the yard and don't have any ambition to race or talk about the Rcs at all online or anyhting.

heck there was a guy right down the street from me that had a savage. I'd hear him running it once in a while and finally caught him outside and talked to him. pretty sad actually. his savage was nice. he had thick aftermarket side plates, XTM .247 pro, sliding clutch, 3PK Futaba controller, Air servos, and it had never been off road!!! he had on road tires on it and he only ever drove it nice and easy around the court he lived in. he was braging bout how he put a gallon into it over the summer... and I said well you sould come on out for some good ol' off road racing/bashing. Then I told him I can put a gal into my JT maxx and Landmax in just one weekned. Rolleyes lol
Is he an older guy...like 40's or 50's(no offense to older people on this board)? I don't even want to run my truck in my backyard. First, my yard is not big. Once you hit WOT for even 1 sec, you need to stop! 2nd, I would ruin my yard due to the tires ripping off all the grass.

We should get more people into this hobby. It is so much fun. Also, I think it can get kids out of troubles if they are into this hobby(no more money for other stuff other than RC!).
It's funny how we can attract a crowd of people when driving any r/c. Always there is the one question, how much? Once you give them a ballpark idea...the response is wow thats alot of money, do you know what you can buy with that?! Hey, it's a hobby and it keeps us out of trouble and thats all that matters.
The best way to find out if there are people inyour area is hang out at your local hobby shop in the rc area and talk to the people that come in. I got my Savage a year and a half ago. It was my first RC, and no one I know had one. By hanging out at my LHS I have created a racing club that has 40 members and just completed its first year. So we are out there you just need to know where to look.
Yeah you can stand there and talk for hours ......

But my problem is that I don't want to go to my LHS(Hobbytown USA in Aurora). You should know what I mean Wink
Well I totally understand that.......

You can always drive up to the ST Charles one, its not that far

Yeah, I need to go to the one in St. Charles since if I break anything over the weekend, I usually have to wait till weekday to go to Al's. I should try to go up to St. Charles's. It should be about 20 mins from my house.
They don't have alot at St Charles as far as hop up upgrade stuff, but from your name I am guessing you have a savage, they have most stock parts and the major upgrades parts usually. You can also always try Leisure Hours probably the same distance
Leisure stocks tons of stuff. Also Hobby Garage in Naperville could be another option.
I went to the st. charles one with a list of 6 parts that I needed to finish my truck, I left there still needing 5 of them. Only thing I got there was some screws (overpriced ones to boot). They also tell me they will never stock 30% fuel because not enough people want it, and since thats what I run now there is really no good reason to go there anymore.

I need to check out leisure hobby shop sometime.
Venture Hobbies in Wheeling is only a hop and skip away from Schaumburg.

Yea, Venture Hobbies has a ton of stuff in stock. Last time I was there they must have had at least 25 gallons of fuel sitting on the shelf. Not sure what rate fuel they were but they had a lot of it.
usually venture has BT 30% and OD 30% sometimes trinity platnium 30%. hehe.. I can check tomorow as I'll be heading there to get some glow plugs since I'm working out near there right now.
