Ok so I think I have a problem, I went to go put the motor in the truck and before that I went to check the glow plug and it was bad, so I pulled the pull starter and it goes smooth till I hit TDC, it gets really hard to pull and locks up then it is really hard to get it out of TDC. Is this normal? This is the first 2.5 that I have had a pull start on for break in.
is it flooded? what plug did you change to? you might want to take the head off and see if the plug is sticking down to far.
I didn't even put it in the truck yet, I put a little bit of fuel in there so I didnt scratch anything, I havn't tried to start it yet either, it just seem really tight around TDC, but I'm not sure.
Mine was a bitch to turn over even with the plug out. Until it ran a tank or two it would always stick TDC.
well if you have the stock ez-start I would put that on there to break it in IMO
Thanks Dave, did yours start up easy? My last new 2.5 went thru 3 easy start batts before it started.
is it new? New motors will stick at TDC if it hasnt been broken in yet

I did use after run oil to prelube the engine, made sure it was primed, and fully charged the Ezstart battery, warmed the engine with a hair dryer and it was fired up easily.
Ok, Yeah it is new, I still have the EZ start pack but I have no clue where the motor is for it, there is another one on my dad's maxx but I dont feel like taking that off, hopefully I'll be able to get it broken in starting tomorrow after school, and then finish it up saturday night.
u wont have a problem using the pull start i dont think its gonna be tough at TDC cuz thats where ur pinch is. if u do the heat cycle breakin u should be fine and remember the warmer the better (to a certain extent lol)
yeah, what would you guys reccomend for break in for this motor, I was thinking of doing the heat cycle, but I have done all of my other traxxas motors how they reccomend on the DVD and the last motor I got about 9.5 gallons out of.
I only use the heat cycle way, but just use what works for u. I would wrap a sock on the head or sumthing because of the cold temps
yeah im gonna do the sock thing, any one else got some advice for the break in method?
If you got 9.5 gallons through your last motor, do the same breakin that you did the last time. No need to try something new. I consider 9+ gallons excellent runtime!
OK, I guess I'll just do it how Traxxas reccomends
