I am an all around newb, but I'm really confused on nitro tuning since I mostly run electric. I bought a t-maxx last june and have never been able to tune it right. Right now I think it runs too rich and after a while bogs than dies. I tried tuning it myself but after about half an hour I get nowhere. I'm not looking to race it or anything, I'm just lookin to have fun with my nephew bashin it around the back yard and the way it's running now isn't fun. It's frustrating the hell out of me and I feel like a moron. Would anyone be willing to tune it with me and tell me what I'm doing wrong. I buy you lunch or a gallon of fuel.
ok well what are your settings right now?
when is it dieing/bogging down? when its idling, lower speeds/higher?
OOhhhh, free stuff !!! I work in Downers Grove, right down the street from Oak Brook. If you want we could try to do something during the day Mon-Fri, or if you wanna trust me with it for a day, I could give it my best efforts at home and bring it back to you the following day.... Lemme know. I have a Revo and they are the same 2.5R engine (if your TMaxx is new last June).
you might also want to try to go on traxxas and get the factory needle settings and start from there, they have a how to tuning guide, and maybe watch the DVD again. Smile
The thing dies when it goes back to idle from half to full throttle. There is a lot of smoke comin out when it's at idle, I know in the summer it shouldn't be that way but I'm not sure at these temps. It's not a 2.5R, just a 2.5. I would like to see how you tune it too.
ok, your low speed and idle are too rich, lean them out like 1/8 turns at a time.Smile
if that fails and you still cant do it then come to leisures raceway on this friday and ill help you out and there will be others there also.
if your not a good tuner yourself, PLEASE don't give advice on tuning. I'm not saying anyone in this thread is doing that but that's my take on it. I woul;d hate to see the guy lean his truck out and blow the motor. What if his truck is already too lean on the bottom end? what if it's currently lean bogging on takeoff?

Unless your absolutely sure, never just say "lean this or that". We haven't even got a really good description of the symtoms yet from LastGTA.

If your tuning for 30 mins and have no success then your not turning the needles enough. Alot of beginers are scared to really turn the needle because they fear they will lose whatever tune they have currently or that they will screw the truck up forever. That's not the case. Don't be scared to turn your needles a full 1/8-1/4 turn at a time.

LastGTA,

Do you have really sluggish or really great takeoff? (1st 1-3 seconds after mashing throttle)

Does your truck switch into second gear in a timely manner, if it switches at all? (estimate in seconds after mashing throttle from complete stop)

Do you ever go full speed (WOT) to clear the motor out of excess fuel build up?

What fuel (% and brand), and what glow plug (brand and temp/model number) do you use?

When you do a full speed pass does it seem to have the speed it should have (it should be really pretty fast) or does it seem sluggish or "cut out"? if it cuts out at high speed (meaning it's starving for fuel) your majorly lean on the HSN.

We can continue to ask questions like these to better help determine an answer to getting this fixed for you.
That's why I said I would meet him. My screwdrivers can't reach to Oak Brook from Naperville....

thats why I said to bring it to the track because illl be there and a lot of others from chitown will also be there.
that way if I cant tune it then there will be others there to tune
Only bad thing about taking it to the track, is it will be a lot harder to tune an engine that is already far off settings. You need to have the space to run it at speed, you need to be able to hear what the engine is doing. It can be tuned at the track, it'll just be a little difficult.

oh yeah forgot about that Sad duh
I'll bring it uo one of these weekend, but I not only want the truck tuned, I also want to know how to tune it.
