I have mentioned this before in some of my previous posts, but it strikes me that kids are the future of our sport/hobby. I also must mention that I don't have kids of my own, but I have many friends that do. I have no problem letting their kids (6yrs old) drive my modded Revo, they seem very respectful of it and enjoy it very much. The question is at what age does one get children involved in R/C and in what capacity? Hopefully this thread benefits everyone here... - Later, DaveB :wavey:
That all depends on the maturity level of the individual kids. If they have the patience to take things a little slower till they get used to the handling, you can start them younger. One of the guys here has a son (I think around 8-10 yrs old) who outdrives some, if not most, of the older guys here.
i think i started in like the summer between 5th and 6th grade so probally around 10 or 11 with a duratrash maximum ST, then went to an emaxx, then to a n-rusty, then mini t and tmaxx now tmaxx and 18t
I've gotten beat by an 8 year old at the track :o: That was back in the beginning of my racing career when I was still comendeering my savage.

That sounds so long ago.... Wasn't that just last winter... Big Grin
LOL, last winter was my first time racing! I'm practically a newb to the sport Smile.
i let my 8 year old nephew play with my t-maxx and he does very good with handeling it and he takes his time with it ciz he has seen me break it before..
Perfect examples... There are some 8 yr olds who respect the equipment, and I've seen some 13-15 yr olds that would just go W.O.T into a wall, then throw the Tx in anger...
ohh my nephew knows if he did that we would have a problem...so he takes care of and as long as he does that he knows he can play with it as much as he wants..
I too have no childen but I my 7 year old nephew has shown quite an interest in R/C, so I have been teaching the basics. He loves to help me when I break down my T4 to clean it up. And he loves to help put it together. As for driving I let drive the T4 (mainly in backyard) and he is getting better and better. I try to instill the old addage<?> fastest doesn't always win, and patience is a virture (I dumb it down a little so he understood of course) I promised him that when he turn 8 (this year) I will get him a truck of his own. Little does he know I already had his Ruslter (electric of course) waiting for him a year or so. I just hope my 5 year old nephew start shows the same interest, but so far it nothing but Spiderman and Power Rangers.
My boys are 7 & 9 and they enjoy bashing their E-Pedes. I've built a t-maxx for them so they get a feel of what nitro is like.

Like some others I've raced on-road against one kid who was probably 11, he beat us every race Big Grin
Cool, this info gives me some idea of what to tell my friends when they ask me "Do you think little Junior is old enough for one of those _______"?. Thanks guys.
I'm getting my little bro into it as we speak, he's 8
I got all my neighbors hooked. Started with my Stampede. Next thing, my neighbor gets a Maxx, and my other neighbor getts his son (10) a Stampede, and I sold him a Kyosho buggy for cheap for his daughter (11).

My son got his first Zip Zap at 1 1/2 years and was practicing with my Stampede at 2. I got him a Mini-t for his 3rd Bday. Some of you may have met him at the summer Berwyn bash. He can drive the Mini-t very well and its small enough to pick up and carry.
I wish there were others in my neighborhood involved in RC. To date I've not met one. There were some guys last summer who came over and watched me run my Savage around, they were amazed. They turned me on to a bashing spot nearby where they run their dirt bikes, pretty nice place.
As soon as they can reach the trigger and apply the brakes!
My son is 11 and seems to enjoy it. He isnt really into the wrenching aspect of it, like I am. We havent raced yet or really used our RC10GT much because it seems its always in a state of constant dis-repair. We'll see how he does when we get over to LHR. I think once he gets to run around the track a bit, he'll like it more. I bought it so we could have some fun together, since he isnt into sports.
