I am new to this forum just wanted to say hello. I have been out of R/C for a couple of years and looking to get back into it. I have been looking to get either a HPI Savage or Sport works Mayhem S/T. I have never raced competively just bashed. I would like to do both now. Which kit would you suggest or any others that you can think of that won't kill me on price.

Thanks
welcome

The Savage is a durable basher, but not a good choice for racing. The mayhem is in a different racing class, I have heard mixed things about the mayhem, and I have never owed or driven ine so I will not comment. A Revo might be a decent choice for racing and bashing

I guess to get an accurate answer you need to decide
1) do I want to race or bash
2) what is my budget
3) Do I want to race mt or unlimited monster truck. (main diffrence ULMT is based off 1/8th scale buggies with a center diff)
I agree that for a basher/racer a Revo will do that best. Also very newb friendly. If you get more specific on which you want to do more, there are better choices for both.
I mostly would like to race a 1/8 scale truggy. I have been reading the reviews about the mayhem on the forum doesn't realy seem to negative. I had a T Maxx before and it seem like I was always working on it more than driving it. (I guess thats the hobby). I am looking to stay away from Traxxas. I am not saying anything negative about Traxxas just looking for something different.
Hmmm... I would like to say welcome for the most part. I run a revo and love it so could offer some suggestions. However... you seem to have a pretty good idea of where you want to head. There are a good number of UMT racers on here that will be a big help. It looks like a fun and competitive class... and one I cant afford. ;-)
As you can see from my sig., I have no problems running sportwerks products. There not the best, there priced pretty good, very durable, and its a better feeling to beet someone with a lesser vehicle. Ask rocco. He whoops up on the Monster truck class with a highly modded savage. Why?Well lets just say he likes to be diffrent.
Welcome to the forums. With the T-Maxx, I'm sure that almost everyone here that has had a Maxx would agree that in stock form the Maxx's weren't very reliable. I gotta hand it to Traxxas on the Revo though. It is a LOT more durable and reliable than the Maxx trucks.

As the other guys pointed out, the biggest question is: What are you going to use the truck for, Bashing, racing, or both. The Savage is a great basher. It takes a beating like nothing else, but it takes some serious upgrading to make it a worthy racer. The "Truggies" (Mayhem ST, Lightning SP, Ofna Jammin, etc.) are excelent racers, but aren't as much fun to bash. Their Ultra-low ride hight make it hard to Bash anywhere but parking lots or groomed tracks. That's where the Revo references came up. The Revo definately holds it's own on the track, and is still quite durable and fun to take to your local dirt mounds or construction area and Bash.

After all, it is your decision, make sure you weigh all the options, and I'm sure any way you choose, you will have fun.
Just wanted to thank everyone for their replys. I might to klook at the Revo. I am looking to have fun with truck but definitely want to get into racing. Maybe start out with the Revo then look into a Truggy.

That is about where I am at. I wanted an "all around" RC. It has done very well bashing and I am very impressed with the on-track handling. I am sure that a while down the line I may move to a truggy but for now the Revo is perfect...
The Team assoicated truck is also a very good basher and has racing in mind with its design. You should look into that too
Definitely. I ran with an MGT when I was on vacation. I chose between the Revo and that actually. Basically if you will race and bash but think you may do a fair amount of racing you should go with the Revo. (IMO) If you will be doing both but more bashing and a small amount of racing then the MGT. (again... IMO)
if your going to race, buy something that was engineered to race, like a Jammin' truggy, etc...A Revo was built for the nitro beginers, and that crowd, we just made race trucks out of them. Who puts an EZ start on a race truck? that's my point.
the mayhem s/t has one :bustingup
well atleast the motor isnt attached to the mayhem lol
Rotostarts don't count... They don't carry the weight of an electric motor and all the gearing and wires an EZ start does.... LOL
LOL!! Ok i stand corrected
I guess I have some research to do. Alot of trucks were listed and I have to see how I will be using it mostly.
I do believe I will be going with a Revo. Should be picking it up on Thursday
Congrats on your decision. You won't be disappointed.
