Got a new engine this weekend!! - 06-28-2005, 04:51 PM

I think I got a sweet deal but that's my opinion.
So I walk into a hobby shop in Memphis this last weekend and I see a top T528XSP for $259.00 Not too bad of a price, I ask to see it a employee hands it to me and says they had it a while, ding ding this tells me they might just want to get rid of it so I talk to the owner and he drops it to 239.00. Awesome I take it Well... only down fall is that the wrong one way was in the box.
Soo after we went back to the hobby shop and told them about the problem the owner says not a problem we will get ya set up.... only problem is that they didnt have one that would work. So they offer to order it for me and I can pick it up in 3 days, Well as luck would have it I live in Illinois and wont be there in 3 days so he offers to order it and then ship it to me, naw that wont work I need it this comming weekend. I told them to just give me the cash they would spend and I would order it. So the guy tells me I'll give you 39.95 plus tax back.
SO I ended up paying $200 for it. not bad I guess.
Anyway got a new one way for $17 on ebay and all should be good for the 3rd, if not I can use Eric's bump box, right?

Anybody have any experience with this engine? How does it perform?

And yes I would have bought a Modded P5 But the price of this was pretty dammn cheep so I jumped on it

Yes I'm Eric's brother!

Yeah, you got a sweet deal
Yes you can use my bump box if your parts dont get here in time, but I think they will.
Heck, you can still use my box if you get tired of pulling on that cord

use that extra money you saved to get a bumpbox. Once you go starter box you never go back unless you are forced to.

I would love to have a bump box, But that is just another thing to have to tote around as if this hobby doesnt require enough as it is.

change the glow plug, make sure all the screws for the carb, cooling head, and backplate and such are tight. Richen the needles a full turn and try some new fuel. hopefully that will get it running to were you can tune it for performance

I wouldn't do that... How would you know to richen when you don't even know how it runs? It can stall from being too rich also so I wouldn't jump to any conclusions.

I wouldn't change the gas unless it wasn't taken care of.
Don't store it on a concrete floor
store it in a cool, dry place... no direct sunlight
don't leave the gas container open for extended time (fuel bottle, or gallon)

As long as you didn't do any of that with your gas you should be good.

What's the temp on the motor at running tempature?
Does it seem to bog on the low end or high end?
Does it have super crisp throttle responce?
How is the Idle? is it too high or too low?
How long does a tank of fuel last?
How is the smoke on the low end and high end? nice trail the whole way? Or no smoke the first 1sec you pull the trigger?

I got it figured out for him
The problem was it was stalling right after removing the glow ignitor every time or as soon as you let it idle down, or after about 15sec of running, it would just die instantly.
After trying everything I know......4 different kinds of plugs, tried leaning it, richening it, sealed the back plate with RTV, pulled the carb and checked all the needles/slide and o-rings, tried different fuel tank, blew through all the fuel lines and pipe to check for restrictions, removed fuel filter, you name it, I tried it.........I even tried my SH.28 in it and it still did it! That had me stumped and I about gave up.

Guess what it was though???? It was the brand new fuel line!
Even though it was brand new with no holes or restrictions......
I had also put some of the same fuel line on my truck the night before and decided maybe I should try and run mine.......it did the same damn thing!
So then I knew what it was right away, after about 4 hours of messing with his truck trying to get it to run!

I switched out my fuel line and it ran great again, and so does his now
