Dang it, first problem appears with the revo. -

The freaking engine runs hotter than hell! Even with good smoke coming out the back. During break in it was like 240*. I had to richen it more than the factory setting just to keep the temps down.
After five tanks of break in (follow the procedures in the book), I started mashing the throttle only to find out that the temps are consistently around 250* without changing the hsn from the break in setting. What's going on here? Any of you other revo guys had this problem or heard of it? Possible fixed. I'm not too impressed at the moment with the speed because it's so bloody rich just to keep the temps down. Hell, you can see fuel dripping out of the exhaust when it's sitting there idling. I'm not worried about running it at 260 or even 270. The problems lies in the fact that in needs to be rish as hell just to stay at those temps. It takes quite a bit of time to hit second gear because it's so rich. Any leaner and I'm gonna start seeing 300+ temps.

Ok, just got finished running it for the day. As the 7th tank was nearing completion, I noticed the temp were down a little more than before. I leaned it out a tad and temps climbed only slightly, so I leaned it out some more. Now this thing is starting to run like I think (fast
 ) with decent temps. Pretty cool.I go to unscrew the glow plug so I cam throw in some after run oil and what do you know. I barely started to turn it and it was real loose. That think was barely tight at all!! You think this could be the culprit? If so, I can only blame myself for trusting the qc over at traxxas and not going throught he truck myself. I'm gonna run it for another 2-3 more tanks tommorrow for some test and tune with a tight glow plug and see what happens . Me revo saga contines... Something I've learned about new motors. I dont trust the QC of the manufacter. EVERY motor I get I flush the motor before running it the first time. I completly disassemble the entire thing and flush it out with denat alchohol. I did that with my 2.5r and it still looks good on the inside. Even I havent ran it in awhile =). I did the same with my OS TM and my NR P5. I got 8 gallons out of that motor and it still looks good on the inside.
Some of the early Revo's, had problems with debris in the tanks and would cause pre-mature engine failures.

Watch your connections!!! The O-Ring on the gas tank leaks badly and leans out the mixture raising temps. Also, watch the header coupler as it gets a split and leaks reducing pressure to the tank.

I've been on the traxxas board for like the last hour or so readinf up on the revo. I did catch that gas tank leak on quite a few threads. I checked it out and there's no gas anywhere on the tank and it feels solid when I close the lid. Looks good to me. I also tried the tip of pulling off the air cleaner and plugging the hole with my finger. No air leaks should make the engine shut down immediately when plugging the hole. Did that too. I then fired it up and drove some more and the temps were down dramatically somehow, lol.

My stock Revo runs 250-270 depending on how rich I want to run it. When you lean it to the point where it really starts making power, it's quickly up to 270-300, but still a little smoke under full throttle. When it gets that hot the engine really starts smoking and burning off any crud. But it hauls! I just don't feel like using the engine up under those tuning conditions.
I use OD's 20% fuel with the Traxxas #3232 plug and we have around 2 gallons through it. We did adjust the shift point to be a little earlier to allow for the tune.

All I gotta say Tune is.......lean it more. Those motors like 280-300F. I ran my 2.5 for 5 gallons at 300F and it ran sweet. Smallblock motors run hotter than big blocks, it's a known fact.
Heres a short story. Rich was having power problems at Leisure when his revo was fairly new. He was running TRX 33% in the 2.5R at the time. I said "let me tune it" and he said "sure". When I was done it was rippin' balls all over the place and when I temped it, it said 287F. Moral of the story is those motors like it hot. (for good performance anyway). Heres a question for you Tune, would you rather get 8 "slow" gallons, OR 5 "fast" gallons through the motor? Just as an example.
