in RC Driver this month i think theres a kit to transform a gen 1 LST to the new LST2 which is basically buffed up drivetrain and a-arms. that might be a good idea to check out.

Magazine reviews are not always accurate... The company that makes the product they are "reviewing" PAY for advertising. If they give a bad review on a product, there is a chance that the company may pull their advertising. The reviews do help a bit, but your best reviews are from real world use, or knowing someone who has/had the product.

This being said, I used to have a LST First Gen. It was a great truck, but did have it's bad points. The arms were a weak point on the first gen, I had went through MANY sets. (Actually, it was mosly the lower arm that would break). The RPM arms are a good, fairly cheap, remedy for that problem. The CVD's on the early run LST's mere known to break, but they did remedy that problem at Losi. The stock tires are also TOO big for anything but bashing, and still can limit bashing fun, due to the excessive weight, and stress they put on the arms. Replace them with Standard Bowties, and the truck will accelerate a lot faster (Mostly due to less rotational mass, and lighter weight). The top speed will only drop 2-4 MPH, but that will hardly be noticed. I would suggest slightly modding the transmission, to remove the Low gear option. Some trucks had a slight problem with the gear mesh not sitting right when they were changed from low to high gear too often. Low gear really isn't needed. As said above, there is a kit to transform the LST 1 to the LST 2. the MAIN upgrades are to the susp. arms, and hub carriers.

Broken steering knuckles are also fairly common I belive...they are BIG and heavy so there is alot of stress put on the front suspension.

Knuckles weren't too much of a problem unless the Aluminum arms were used. The Alum is TOO stiff, and moves the stress elsewhere. The RPM arms provide enough flex to absorb some of the shock.

The LST2 conversion comes with larger Knuckles, beefier arms, Larger Axles and bigger bearings

They changed quite a bit on the LST2. Engine and wheels were only the Imediately obvious changes.

The Rear axle carriers are now fixed, meaning no more need for a rear turnbuckle.
The Axles are now 8mm and use a 20mm Hex.
Wheel bearings are now larger to accomodate the larger Axles.
Axle carriers all around are now larger and stronger.
suspension arms are beefier and stronger than before.
Stronger Chassis Main Rails
Included secondary gear cover
Stock threaded shocks

I'm sure there are more...
