That all depends on the maturity level of the individual kids. If they have the patience to take things a little slower till they get used to the handling, you can start them younger. One of the guys here has a son (I think around 8-10 yrs old) who outdrives some, if not most, of the older guys here.

I too have no childen but I my 7 year old nephew has shown quite an interest in R/C, so I have been teaching the basics. He loves to help me when I break down my T4 to clean it up. And he loves to help put it together. As for driving I let drive the T4 (mainly in backyard) and he is getting better and better. I try to instill the old addage<?> fastest doesn't always win, and patience is a virture (I dumb it down a little so he understood of course) I promised him that when he turn 8 (this year) I will get him a truck of his own. Little does he know I already had his Ruslter (electric of course) waiting for him a year or so. I just hope my 5 year old nephew start shows the same interest, but so far it nothing but Spiderman and Power Rangers.

I got all my neighbors hooked. Started with my Stampede. Next thing, my neighbor gets a Maxx, and my other neighbor getts his son (10) a Stampede, and I sold him a Kyosho buggy for cheap for his daughter (11).
My son got his first Zip Zap at 1 1/2 years and was practicing with my Stampede at 2. I got him a Mini-t for his 3rd Bday. Some of you may have met him at the summer Berwyn bash. He can drive the Mini-t very well and its small enough to pick up and carry. |

I wish there were others in my neighborhood involved in RC. To date I've not met one. There were some guys last summer who came over and watched me run my Savage around, they were amazed. They turned me on to a bashing spot nearby where they run their dirt bikes, pretty nice place.
