thinking of getting an RC18t any opinions? - 12-04-2005, 09:15 PM

I have a mini-t right now and am pretty happy with only using it for the ocasional outdoor use and mostly indoor antics but traction and handling is not always the best because of the RWD setup. Its not the most stable thing on loose surfaces and is a bear to drive on slick cement. My mini-t has got a HiTec Servo, Mass termination motor, Novak Spy... ect so not stock electronics. Anyways I've been tossing around the idea of getting a Factory team RC18T kit and transfering all the Mini-t stuff over to it. I know people here have them but have not heard much other than that. any problems with them? anyhting fragile or things I should do right away if I do get one? basically I'm wondering would it be worth it to go with the RC18t and sel my Mini-t as a rolling chassis.

The little time I had mine I liked it alot. One thing I didnt like was that the spring retainers fell off pretty easy. But other than that, it was a solid little truck.

problems with retainers also and when I run offroad seems I always get a little rock inbetween the gears. MiniT never seemed to have that problem.

hmmm.. interesting. I think I'll get the factory team RC18t but still keep the Mini-t on the shelf as a roller since I know that a Mini-t roller even with mods is worth next to nothing anyhow.

Thanks!

i love my 18t. I ended up glueing the retainers to the bottom of the shocks and not a problem.

Six,

They now are showing a buggy version of the 18t in the ads. It looks pretty neat also. If I was gonna do mini truck again, I would pass on the MiniT for the same handling reasons you mention. But it is fun to practice with the MiniT until you can powerslide the corners in the house. I'm curious about the foam tires on racing carpet and how that will handle.

Buying new I would go RC18MT or Kyosho Half 8 buggy. I know others are jumping on the MiniLST, but I wonder about two motors. Twice the maintenance and half the run time.

I still think bang-for-buck, the MiniT rules at under $100.

I got a chance to look at the RC18 buggy version at AL's. Man the shock towers are soo fragile looking. I compared it to the Duratrax version and believe it or not, the Duratrax actually looks stronger. Alum shock towers and the frt arms protect the shocks better than the AE one. The Half8 on the other hand is built very well IMO.

I thought about the Half 8 but there is no kit, they are more expensive, everyone recomends a list of hopups out of the box. I don't want to have to buy the Half 8 strip out all the electronics, dissasemble half of it, put on another $100 of stuff to make it durable with powerfull electronics.. blah. Plus with Kyosho dist their own parts now and the fact that this is just a fun messing around kinda thing I want to go to any LHS and get parts.

I also looked at pics of the RC18b but I don't want the exposed shock towers and I dunno I think the truck still looks cooler and I've not found much in the Must have hop ups when it comes to RC18's or much in the way of problems.

Drifting around in the house is impossible with my mini-t. put a good powerfull motor, ESC, and GOOD batteries (KAN 1050's, GP's.. ect. not the RX pack junk 90% of the MFG's sell as Mini packs) in a mini-t and on slick surfaces kiss all control goodbye. Slight little bit on the throttle and its doing doughnuts and on loose dirt the thing is just impossible to drive.

yeah screw it.. I'm just going to poke around and get a FT RC18t kit. FT version also has a bunch of hop ups included which is a bonus in my book.

lol.. If I do sell it as a roller it won't be until after the holidays but I know you've always wanted one! It will have 2 sets of KAN 1050 packs with it and a bunch of hop ups too. AL knuckles, BRP front brace (<--- A MUST HAVE FOR ALL MINI-T's IMO!! I've yet to break a stock chassis off at the nose since I got that brace), oil filled shocks, adjustable turnbuckles, tuning springs, a couple AL bits on the chassis, a bunch of spare parts, MIP ball diff with 2 rebuild kits, U joint alxles in the rear and full beaings with spare bearings to boot.
