hey, got this off the os engine site, it's for planes, but same thory;
Remove carburetor from engine. Remove rear cover and cylinder head. Slide cylinder liner straight up. Remove piston/connecting rod assembly from the crankshaft. Pay attention to the orientation. The assembly has a definite front and rear. Remove prop nuts, prop washer, and drive washer from the front of the crankcase. Remove crankshaft by sliding it straight out of the back of the crankcase. The crankcase must be heated to remove the ball bearings. You can heat the engine in an oven. Put the engine on a cookie sheet and place in an oven set to 250 degrees. When the engine has reached that temperature, hold the engine with an oven mitt and gently rap it against a piece of wood. The bearings should fall out. Let the crankcase cool. Clean the crankcase thoroughly. Reheat the clean crankcase in the oven until it's hot. Gently install the new bearings (not heated) by tapping them into place with a piece of dowel rod. Don't use a hammer or steel rod as a driver. The bearings will slip easily into place if they are inserted straight. Let crankcase cool. Reassemble the case in the reverse order of disassembly, and use plenty of oil when assembling the engine. Automatic transmission fluid makes an excellent assembly oil. |

Easier way?? Send it to Traxxas for an exchange.
Have you looked into the cost of a new bearing?? In the end, by the time you purchase and install the new bearing, and anything else you may need to freshen it up, do you still have an engine w/ 7 gallons through it or are you replacing the piston and sleeve also?? |

since its a 2.5 your best bet would be to pick up a new case/engine block from ebay. They 99% of the time already ahve the bearings in the block and people are always parting out new 2.5's on ebay.
Other than that your only other option is to dissasemble the entire engine then heat the block and pop out the bearing and replace them. edit... in fact here are a few 2.5 cases on ebay. http://search.ebay.com/traxxas-2-5-c...202Q2e5Q20case 1:1.. 01 Z28 Camaro A4 Sure.. its stock. 1:8's.. If you have got that many gallons on it, you if fact would be better off replacing the engine.
You could also use a hair dryer or heat gun to knock the bearings out. I use the crankshaft to guide the inner back in when installing the new bearing. |
