Yet another 2.5 question - 12-04-2005, 12:06 AM

Hey, I was out running in the snow tonight, the truck was running fine this morning and then its started to bog down a little bit and wouldnt want to die while idling or trying to get moving. even if it did get moving it wouldnt be moving very fast, tried to tune it and everything is ok i think that the tune is just fine, the temp is about 250-240 so i think thats ok, im thinking it could be a plug, if u guys think so to, what kind should i get i like the mccoys but what temp and length? all comments welcome thanx

Matt your needle settings have nothing to do with his motor, every motor is different even if it's the same model motor. I've had my 2.5 at 2 1/2 turns out on the top needle while my buds was 4 turns out and they were both tuned right.

Traxxas26, sounds like it is to rich or the clutch is fried like Mike said. Both of those things will cause it to not idle well.
Being too rich will cause it to bog down on takeoff, and a fried clutch will just make the truck act erratic, it could hit high rpm and not really move or it will simply kill the motor on take off. etc.....

yeah its not quite killing the motor yet, but it boggs down, i dont think its the tune, i can do that pretty well, and its not acting like tuning problems, it stays running but i can have it at full throttle and the truck barely moves, but if i let it cool that its ok for a few minutes, i have a couple extra clutch shoes laying around here somewhere that im gonna have to see if i can find.

Clutch shoes probably got wet and glazed over. You could sand them lightly and clean up the inside of the clutch bell, that should fix you up.

Sounds like you might have an airleak to me. I would check the fuel lines and fuel lid to make sure everything is sealed up. Puff off the line going into the carb and plug it up with a screw. Then you can pull the line off the exhaust and blow into it. You might hear some air leaking or you might have to put it into a bucket of water to really test it.
