On-Road Handling - 09-13-2004, 12:05 PM

I have an Associated TC3 and when I run it on anything
bumpier than fresh asphalt all it does is bounce around
and won't drive straight. I have played with the suspension
but it hasn't helped much. I am running rubber on-road tires.
I don't have a lot of experience with on-road stuff.

Anybody have any suggestions to make it more controllable?

thats funny I had an electric TC3 one time, and I was not happy driving it up and down the driveway, had the same problem. Have you tried adjusting the ride height, shock oil and or springs? Perhaps a softer set up might help. I know it made a difference in my sportmaxx, switching to lighter shock oil.

You're probably right. Softer is the way to go. I remember trying
to raise the ride height by adjusting the shock tension.
It definitely raised the height but also made the handling worse
because it became so bouncy.

I've been thinking about putting a rally kit on it but I may actually
race it one day and won't want to convert it back.

I tried to post a link to Tower's site but it didn't work.
Go to Tower's web site and do a search for "TC3 Rally".

Raise it up a li'l bit just so it soaks up the bumps better. Don't raise it up until it rides with the shocks fully extended because you want suspension travel in both directions. Run a harder spring in the front and softer in the rear andharder front tire inserts and soft rears. the stiffer front and harder rear will help keep rear traction and makeit more controlable. It could be a problem with downforce. The body you run makes a massive difference in handling on these little cars. That is why racers find one good handling body then they all use it. A racing body will really make any 1/10 handle a heck of a lot better than say a mini cooper body or even worse an El camino or truck body. Use the rear wing.. even if you don't like it bolt it on. The wing will keep the rear end planted at just about any speed over 10mph. If you want serious high speed traction get an outlaw Lola GTP (kinda like a wedge shape) body for your TC3. Unreal downforce on those.

The rally kit is for the electric TC3 only, can't be used on a nitro TC3. As for handling, my NTC3 has never had problems with the shocks being to stiff on bumps. I've never changed the shock oil and acctually put red springs all around and still no bumps other than the usual on-road bumps when you hit a rock or certain surface. I used to have the stock rubber tires with foam inserts and now just straight Jaco Nitro shoes foams, both were pretty stable on the ground. I'm also assuming that since this is in the nitro forum that yours is a NTC3, if it was electirc than it might be due to how light the electric on-roads are.

yeah that why I don't have 1/10 on roads period. Just to sensitive to bumps and junk in the pavement and I got sick of ahving to scope out the lots and sweep them and avoid areas because they were too rough. I sold all my 1/10 on roads off after I got the landmax.

Woops! I posted in the wrong section. Sorry. My TC3 is an electric.
You guys have definitely given me some good ideas. The way my
car is set up right now is very frustrating. It sits on a shelf most of
the time. I'll bet with a little work, I can get it running good.

Thanks guys!

I was looking for a nice rally car, six has a real nice one, but I can't find them anywhere. I have seen Kyosho's TR-15 I think which looks pretty close but with a smaller engine. Do you guys get to run these cars very much or are they just the backshelfers to the trucks? I know six runs his alot but does anyone do any racing or is it just bashing on the road. Just curious.

tr-15 is just a 1/10 nitro buggy that kyosho put a rally car body on. nowhere near the durability of the Landmax 2. only problem with the landmax 2 is its expensive but tough as nails. Tower sells the LM2.

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXANJ2&P=ML

You can get them at the LHS but they have to be ordered. I know Al's at one point used to stock the LM2 kits but they stoped.

Same principals apply to the ETC3 as the NTC3. there is no Rally conversion for the nitro because the nitro is already 200mm wide. the rally conversion justs make the ETC3's 190mm width to the Nitro standard 200mm's. Thats it.

I used to race my electric TC3 then put a BL in it for a while raced it in mod class and broke constantly got bored of it and sold it but thats all the real racing I do.
