Running my TC4 Stock -

Ok, I admit I'm a rookie when it comes to onroad cars. I would like to set up my TC4 to run novice level. Mainly I was just running my car in a parking lot near the house. Now I would like to try at a track. I amd probaly go to IRP in Dekalb for now, since LH is closed for now. I was wondering what type of things should I have for my car and stuff. So far I have a TC4 all stock. Stock 24mm wires and tires(rubber), a Hitec steering servo, reciever, and radio. I have a 16-30 pinion gear set from robinson racing. I just picked up a new body, the Protoform Pontiac G6. I still up in air on what stock motor to use, I was thinking Trinity P2K2 or Green Machine 3. I'm also up in the air on which ESC to get, I have narrowed down to Novak Dually or the GTX. I'm going to stay away from brushless(since I was trouble with it, and it is a separete class). Batteries are taken care of GP3300, and GP3700. I was also reading some of the post on the IRP forum board, and they where talking about cs-27 tires/wheels? What exactly are those, and where can I get a set?
I was going to head out there next weekend hopefully to start practicing, but I want to get a few practice seesions under my belt before I enter any race. I want to make sure I can handle my car correctly and not damage anybody elses or my car. I know 2wd stadium truck stuff, but Touring Cars are a whole new beast, that all started with a 4-tec. PM Nexus, he's a serious TC racer and has lots of experience that he shares freely. I read that he races IRP regularly.
You might want to check IRP's board and post there as well.

My advice... Go to the track and watch and ask the fastest guys there running TC4's or even TC3's what kind of setups they are using. After that pick up what you need and go back to the track and Practice! Practice Practice! racing on road on a carpet track is a completely different experience than anyhitng else. grip is unreal, corner speeds are lightning fast, and the smallest changes will make a large difference in handling. When you do practice run a bunch of laps. Then make ONE change and back on on the track. Its time consuing but making several changes at once will throw off the car real quick. Also its a good idea to write down what you changed and what that change did to the car.

I used to get Take Off cs27's and more at http://www.speedtechrc.com They carry a lot of the good electric and nitro on road stuff.

All your gear sounds fine for stock racing. CS-27 are a tire made by the Take Off company. It's a specific tire. Depending on where you race you'll want some tire compound. Makes all the difference in the world. The track will sell it...about 10 bucks. Follow the directions on the package. You'll want to set ride height for the carpet lower than what you've used outdoors. Ask the guys at the track for the best height...most likely 4mm or 5mm.

Thanks for all the info, looks like IRP sells the cs27 tire, so thats cool. And I'm sure I will need some tire compound, so I will get some of that. I headed out there next weekend so we will see how its goes.

Well, I finally got a speedo, a novak gt7(should be getting shipped here soon) which is good since space is tight in the car. I should be headed up to IRP this weekend (well at least friday, got some baseball game to go to on sat and sun). And after talking to guys at Al's who race at IRP, I picked up a Trinity Monster Horse Power motor, and running a 27t pinion. I'm looking forward to racing.

ok...
If you plan to race at IRP or Trackside which are the closest local indoor carpet tracks....both only use TakeOff CS27s. It's kind of the spec tire rule. This helps by negating having to bring a ton of different tire compounds. For electric TC rubber tire racing these are pretty mch staples: Motor: Trinity Monster Stock or Epic ROAR Stock Tires: TakeOff CS27 Body: Protoform Mazda6 or Stratus 2.0 or 3.0 All purpose If you run the Novak GT7 profile #5 is pretty common. Ride Height: 5mm Springs: AE Blue and Silver will get you in the ballpark I have not been checking this board a lot but I'll try and remember too.

Well, I know I can get the tires at the track, need to adjust the ride height which is no problem, I have the complete AE TC spring set so I can adjust, just have have to get the body ready then. I am ready to learn.

we're racing 3 TC3's at IRP. Really stiff upfront, 50 wt oil and I use White springs. 35 weight in the rear, with softer springs. Monster motor. I'm finding that the ESC isn't much of a factor although Cooper's GT7 does feel somewhat smoother if set to #5. Takeoff 27's. Tire sauce too...at the track it's about 10 bucks a can. I fully coat the rears and just do about 2mm on the inside of the fronts.
