I have had them replace 2 motors for FREE.............2.5 and a 3.3

general revo discussion - Tex - 11-12-2006

I was suggesting it to Dave, Ponch.

It looks like it is off of the actual piston.....

lol, I know. I was just relaying personal experiance with Traxxas. They're generally good from what I've seen.

general revo discussion - Tex - 11-12-2006

I don't think Daves problem was from a severe crash so the circumstances are totally different.
I've had 2 motors replaced free of charge by traxxas in the past as well. Both times it was from the piston blowing up like daves.

general revo discussion - DAVEC-NITRO-RS4 - 11-12-2006

It's little bits of alum from the piston skirt that made their way from below the piston up on top of the piston until they stopped the motor. The bottom of the conn rod is gone too. The head button has huge dents in it.

I was driving in the yard and it went "click" and stopped dead. I estimate maybe 4 gallons on it, but it's nearing 18 months old, so.....we'll see.

general revo discussion - Tex - 11-12-2006

I'd say you got your moneys worth then. 4 gallons is about normal for TRX motors IMO.

general revo discussion - DAVEC-NITRO-RS4 - 11-12-2006

I'd prolly agree, considering you know that I never took great care of it. Heck, I just rebuilt the diffs for the first time in 18 months Smile

So, Revo God, what motor would you recommend for the avergae Joe?

I'm thinking another 2.5R or the 3.3R. Believe it or not, I intend to keep the EZ Start...too lazy for PS, too cheap for starter box.

general revo discussion - Tex - 11-12-2006

2.5r

general revo discussion - Mr. Tune - 11-12-2006

Sleeves don't just blow up, lol. That happened to me on saturday on a 2 - 2 1/2 gallon werks motor. They are replacing mine for free for that same reason.

A little jb weld a fix u right up

general revo discussion - DAVEC-NITRO-RS4 - 11-15-2006

Hey, maybe I can just close it back up, put it on Ebay and say:

condition unknown, sold as-is.

I've sold dead computer batteries this way before!

It needs a head, sleeve, piston and rod (and maybe bearings?) so I figure a new engine is in order.

That would be dishonest.
I have a 2.5r with about 2 gals ran thru it.

general revo discussion - DAVEC-NITRO-RS4 - 11-15-2006

You're right of course It would be scammer-like. I will keep it as a desktop paperweight.

A new 2.5R will be here soon, one way or another.

general revo discussion - DAVEC-NITRO-RS4 - 11-15-2006

I was feeling artistic with the camera and I think this portrait turned out well.

I call it "The Price of Nitro".

Nice shot.

general revo discussion - Casketman - 11-15-2006

I hear boca bearings are great in the 2.5/3.3 motors. The .18 OS motors also.

general revo discussion - Obsessive R/C - 11-15-2006

I always liked this one...

What is that Jerry, Sirio 23?

Anyway, too late, another 2.5R is winging it's way to my door this week. I sure hope the temps stay up in the 50's so I can break it in.
