maxximum_44 Wrote:I checked your model (Hp 330n) a couple days ago and it wasn't included, but if it is...lucky you & more money towards your external dvd.

Here are the specs for the model# 330n

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&lang=en&cc=us&product=79518&dlc=en&docname=bph07350

Ever consider swapping you internal cd-rom for a internal dvd burner? That will save you some money and some space, and its easy to do.Wink

Wait is it a A330n or 330n. He said it was an A330n earlier in the thread. The A model has firewire and the non A model does not.

Computer Hardware help needed - cemeb4dk - 11-01-2005

its an a330n

Computer Hardware help needed - maxximum_44 - 11-01-2005

ok, those are two totally different computers, my bad. :o Although, the a330n product discription list's a dvd burner  http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&lang=en&cc=us&product=364065&dlc=en&docname=c00039164

The "a"330n is bad ass compared to the 330n. Sweet!!

what does that have to do with anything? Big Grin

Computer Hardware help needed - cemeb4dk - 11-01-2005

Ok I do have the firewire port, just as in the pic above it is marked 1394.

Now my camera is a Sony Digital8 handycam DCR-TRV140 NTSC
It is a 560 Digital zoom
Hope this helps

Computer Hardware help needed - Mr. Tune - 11-01-2005

That camera has a firewire port too. It should be labeled dv in/out on the camera.

You'll simply need to pick up a firewire cord Smile. External burners will most likely come with software to be able to do basic editing and transfering from camera to pc.

Computer Hardware help needed - maxximum_44 - 11-01-2005

I've got the same camcorder Smile you need a "FireWire 6 pin Male to FireWire 4 pin Male"

Ok, Thats good news!!!!!!

Ok so I will get the wire, now what name brand burner should I get and what features are a must. I dont mind spending $200 or so on a good burner. I would like to get a better than average but doesnt have to be the very best.

I will probably get all this at Bestbuy so i can use my rewars card (if the stuff is there.)

Thanks again to everyone that helped out, The wife is happy I dont have to drop 800 on a new camera, More Rc money SSHHHHH Dont tell her ..LOL

Computer Hardware help needed - Obsessive R/C - 11-01-2005

Ok, now that you guys set him up can I hi-jack for the same thing??

All I want to know is how to get the vid from camera to PC and save it.

I am totally new to this so go easy on me. :flamer:

I have a similar camera: Sony Handicam Hi8 560x Digital w/ nightshot CCD-TRV118 NTSC

Computer: Dell Dimension 2400

Computer Hardware help needed - Michowski - 11-01-2005

i use windows movie maker. What you gotta do with that is actually from the beginning of the tape you just play it back and record it onto the computer using movie maker. Then after that you can either keep the video how it is or edit to to add music, make still shots in it, heck whatever you want.

Computer Hardware help needed - maxximum_44 - 11-01-2005

Obsessive, it looks like you have 6 USB 2.0 ports on 2400, no firewire. Do you have a USB cable? other than that I would use moviemaker too.

Computer Hardware help needed - Obsessive R/C - 11-01-2005

Is moviemaker something I should already have or do I download it from somewhere?

Computer Hardware help needed - Michowski - 11-01-2005

it comes standard with windows xp. However i would go to windows update and make sure you have the latest version of it.

Two things. First, I am not sure how well going direct from camera to DVD burner will go. You have to upload data and the burner would have to keep pace with that data throughput. Second you can by a very large hard drive to upload the data to, then you could get Roxios Toast Titanium (I think they make it for PCs too) and use it to burn the video to DVD. It will encode it for you so it should play directly on almost any DVD player. It even allows you to make menus. Then just dump the data from the drive. If you do get an HD drive make sure its at least 7200RPM.

You could get this 200GB Maxtor For $99.99 from PC mall:
http://www.pcmall.com/pcmall/shop/detail.asp?dpno=106091

and you could get that DVD drive from Tiger Direct that I link earlier in this thread somewhere, For 99.99

Plus I would take a good look at the burner drive that is built in to your system, both Maximum and I looked at the specs and it states that your computer came with a built in DVD burner, it will say on the drive door DVD writable or rewritable or both or sometimes DVD-R R/W.

Best buy should have most of this stuff or something similiar.

Computer Hardware help needed - cemeb4dk - 11-01-2005

OK, you guys where right I guess I do have a burner and a cd burner its a combo unit. I woul dhave bet the farm I didnt have one. Because when the wife and I bought it, we picked the model that didnt have it. Wonder if BB messed up and gave us the wrong computer, all this time and I never knew it.

Pro My hardrive is 120GB, will that be enough to save a HI8 tape. I see what you are saying about the copying right from camera, so I figure I can save it on the PC then burn it and then delete from computers memory. If that is possible

Ok, now how good is the stock dvd writer? Is it like RC where everything needs to be upgraded... Wink

Thnaks again guys I went from buying a camera, to a dvd burner, firewire and a cable. Now it looks like I have to buy a cable thats it....

If and whenever I meet up with you guys I need to buy you a few beers (if your over 21) LOL
