Man you guys are talking about 3600 stall torque converters and shit, wtf you can't drive that shit on the street. Meat, do you want a Daily driver, or do you want a drag car. You want a Daily Driver, get a Honda Accord, Nissan Maxima, Toyota something. You want to go drag racing go buy a Camaro or a Mustang or something, The 2 don't mix. Think about reliabilty.

Last I checked I know several people running I/C/H/E mods with LS1s still netting mid 20mpg ratings and turning out 400+ at the wheels. LSx series engines make power because of the insane head flow they have. Better than many aftermarket aluminum heads out there for sbc, sb ford, and such. I had a 2400 stall in my GTA and it would flash to 2800 or so at times, depending on how much weight was in the car. If I held the brakes and pushed the pedal down the rear tires would start to overcome the brakes by about 2000rpm. In fact, I have a video if it.
http://media.putfile.com/Rolling-run-to-115mph 211/219 duration @ .050", .500"/.525" lift, 112lsa. stock heads, cleaned up. Did the work myself, first time. not professional work. Hooker 2055 headers, SLP 2otL catback. 2400 stall. running stock prom, so plenty of power left in it at that point. 0-60mph in 5 seconds flat according to the video. (timed from the first frame where the needle moves to when the needle passes the 60 mark. Let off at 115mph. Rolled into the throttle, so it wasn't a hard launch at all. BTW, it still got 21mpg without a tune on the ECM, though it wasn't the best idle. At times it would surge, etc... A dyno tune with a wide band would have fixed it, the ecm did okay, but not great with the mods. With a tune I expect it would have been back up towards 26 to 30mpg. I want an old muscle'y car some day...I just like the way the engine sounds @ idle with a long duration Cam. all..choppy...love the sound of american muscle. But I'll drive imports all day long.

I sure hope u are in the 12's with that combo...
my 86 had a "stock" 350,with a lunati street cam, 1.6 rockers, with long tubes 3 inch flows, torqer intake, 750 double pumper(factory jets even) stock gears had the borg warner rear end, 3500 converter full manual valve body, flashing the converter it would run 12.40's at 108 on street tires shitty 1.8 60 ft time and pig rich with no weight reduction at all (well had a 2 inch cowl thats all), and could drive it to cali. with the air on |

I modeled the mods I chose after a lingenfelter buildup. Powerband from idle to about 5500rpm.
The car never saw the track in running trim. Day I took it to the track the oil pump started going. Had a couple crappy passes, then the oil pressure dropped to 0 on a pass, came right back up but the engine hit 270* at the end of the pass. A week later it was knocking. However, the guy I sold the long block to tells me it runs 12's all day long, running the same cam, and heads. He had it rebuilt, but other than a basic rebuild and a valve job nothing was done to it. Its sitting in a 71 nova. Not bad for a long block he paid $200 for. Got a LT1 sitting in the car, but haven't finished up with it. Got just about everything except for some minor stuff. fuel lines, and a starter are all I really need. The harness is all labeled, I just need to give it power, ground, and solder about 7 wires. Leaving the LT1 stock for a while, just running the headers and a cat-back. Maybe a CAI to replace the stock filter setup. I have a Hot-cam, and another set of heads I will send out for port work when I'm ready to next year. Have SFC's, LCA's, and a spherical rod end panhard bar for it as well. Little Toys: Hyper One Seven | Inferno GT | Jammin X1cr | Jammin CRT Pro | 1989 Batmobile Replica |

And Meatwad..... grow up man. You want to beat the punks at stoplights? You will be one of them. Seriously. If you set up some races at night when no one's around that's one thing. Racing from stoplight to stoplight is just stupid. You will be putting all of your money towards lawyers and court costs and not your car. Be smart about this. And ThirdGen..... LSx motors FTW. They have been doing them right. It's amazing what just a nice set of headers can do to those motors, let alone a nice intake and full exhaust to go with it. Add a cam and you have a very reliable and fairly nasty street car. |
