What's the worst thing you've run over (or almost run over) on the Xpressway? - 12-13-2005, 03:08 PM

I'll go first.

Nearly had sheet of drywall go through the windshield!!!!

By God's Grace I changed lanes from behind a truck on 355 near Lake Street. 2 seconds later he drives over a sheet of drywall laying on the road. Somehow, the suction of the truck going over the sheet picks it up and stands it vertically on the road just as the car next to me gets there. The car drives straight through it at 55mph!

Just around the next bend there was a small truck pulled off to the side of the road and the driver was out securing the rest of the drywall he was transporting.

I was lucky that day.

NEXT....

Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Though wise men at their end know dark is right, Because their words had forked no lightning they Do not go gentle into that good night. Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

spatula.....big "cook on the huge grill" spatula. Fast lane on 290 crossing over Wooddale towards 355, a semi truck flips the spatula into the air and directly towards my car....took a chunk out of the front passenger side section of the bumper.

I hit a parakeet..

I thought I saw something yellow pass by my car. Then when I got home I checked the fornt of my car, and believe it or not a smashed yellow parakeet laying on my bumper just under my headlight.

I figure it must have escaped from someones house and WHAM!

I had a baseball sized rock go through the windshield of my first car. I was driving along and caught somehting rolling across the expressway and Wham!!! my windshield was shattered and a few small shards flew off into the car. It scared the hell out of me!

on the Hot Rod Power Tour this year in Lower Alabama I was behind a 57 chevy and a 91 typhoon going about 90mph. the chevy hit his brakes prety hard up ahead so I got on the brakes because I thought mabey he had a problem. all the sudden the road was black and all I heard was gravel pelting the wheels wells and flying all over the lace!! It turns out some idiot truck driver dumped a complete load of ashfault grindings onto the highway!!! luckily because I got on the brakes hard, early on I had a good distance form the car in front of me and I didn't get pelted with gravel on the nose of my car. The typhoon in front of me though had a cracked headlight, chips all over the nose and broken windshield. and my buddy towing his Lightning with his F350 ended up with a cracked windshield and paint chips all over the nose.

I hit a whole family of geese coming back from Michigan City in the rain. A torrentle downpour I had about 20 feet of visibility. I saw them at the last second walking in froont of my old honda civic as my headlights lit them up. There was nothing I could do to avoid them, so I hit em, mama goose and the gooslings. I heard the thud of the mother goose and was sure I smashed some of the babies. I felt terrible for awhile.

I was driving my new at that time 95 Dodge Intrepid on 290 right behind a semi. The threads on one of the rear tires came off, flew up on the windshield completely covering the my vision, I pulled a hard right without looking onto the shoulder. Nothing happened besides scaring the crap out of me.

If only I were a millionare.

Semis!! that reminds me. my old camaro. I was driving down the elgin ohare in the left lane.. there was an Exploder in front of me passing a semi truck. I hung back because I don't like sitting next to semi trucks. well the exploder was just about clear of the semi so I started to pass. all the sudden the Exploder get on the brakes hard. I was like WTF! then the semi truck swerved off into my lane!!! I got on the brakes and ended up on the gravel and grass on the median but the exploder.. well got ripped to shreads by the lug nuts on the semi's front wheels and it went off the road HARD. I can't believe the explorer didn't flip. It turns out there was a scrapper driving a truck that lost a Large cooler, TV and other junk in the road. This poor semit truck driver was on the verge of tears though because he knows he should have just hit the small objects and not swerved, but heck its a force of habbit. so yeah a semi.. thats the the worst thing I almost hit on the road and something I don't ever want to see happen again!! That scared the hell out of me!

speaking of semis, again lol, when i was driving on my permit; I had hockey practice at 6 am in rolling meadows. So me and my mom (she must hate me for all i have done to her car lol) set out on 90 at about 5 am. about halfway there, I found myself about 2 carlengths behind a semi and right before I started to shift lanes BAM!!! semi threw a rock into the windshield went about halfway in and stopped, right in front of the passenger side. Scared the hell outta me especially at that time in the morning

damn i must be a good driver, worst thing that ever happened or scared me was when i first got my license i was pulling out of a gas station and i was sitting behind a car waiting for him to get through traffic to pull out. I could have sworn i saw this guy step on the gas so without looking i just let the car roll forward and bumped him. That was probly the scaries thing i ever had happen so far lol.

Ok, so about 15 years ago I had this little Honda that was basically a rolling car stereo. The whole back seat was gone and had 4- 12" subs. In the front I made custom door panels holding an 8" midbass a 4" mid and 2-1" dome tweets. This thing had about 1200 wts RMS and absolutely rocked. Now, what does that have to do with the story? Just setting the stage...

So I'm up in Madison visiting my brother and we're 'shrooming in the middle of the day and racing down a country road. It's a nice summer day and I've not seen my bro in some time. We're jammin' to Triumph's "Fight the Good Fight", which is a very positive and powerful song-especially when you're tripping.

We come up over this hill and we're singing our lungs out and then" Whooomp, Thud, Thud Thud"!!! Damn! I pull over and we look back just in time to see this big dog limp to the side of the road and die. His little buddy comes up and sniffs him and seems to start crying.

We were devastated!! We just went from the highest high to the lowest low in milliseconds. No one was home so we left a note. That really sucked...
