Talking new project I started.. - 10-21-2005, 06:14 AM

er.. move to rc gen or offroad pls and sry
I purchased an HPI MT2 off ebay, so I sold my rustler and tc3, and am going to be selling my beat up Hyper7, along w/ all the nitro stuff that came with the MT2. I bought FIVE 2s 3100mah lipo packs, two 109d lipo chargers, and a powersupply for $350.. planning on running a Feigao540C-9L, with the packs in a 4s2p 6200mah pack, and sell the extra 2s pack.. 14.8volts should be good. I got my trusty ruler out the other night, and started getting measurements.. and last night I started CADing a new chassis for it..

originally, I wanted to lay the packs down along the sides, just like I designed my rustler's chassis.. this doesn't work with a spur gear in the middle..

standing them up seemed to work..

skip ahead, I made 2 heatsink/chassis reinforcement pieces.. the center spool you see is modled after an ofna PirateMT spool.. the spur size is alot bigger than what I'll actually be running..

threw in a Hacker C50XL and a 15t M1 pinion, just so I could get a better idea of how it'd look..

top deck, 1/16" aluminum.. I forgot to say the bottom will be 1/4" 6016 aluminum with extensive milling to reduce weight. (my rustler chassis out of 1/4" 7075 was WAY to heavy)

made top deck transparent so you (ME) can see what's going on..

side view:

front view, you can see there's not much room between the spur and the lipo's.. the spur i'm going to be using will be smaller though..

top view, you can see the holes in the top and bottom deck around the spur.. the front bearing holder, and rear bearing holder / motor mount will be keyed to the top and bottom chassis for more strength.

front brace in place.

rear brace/ motor mount done..

quick render:

closeup of the motor mount.. top deck will be screwed into the two little "tabs" that stick out..

that's all for now, I'll try and continue to update, when i do something groundbreaking

Nick, that is impressive! Here is another project along those lines, but not so ambitious.
http://home.wanadoo.nl/michaelirschick/

Very cool project. I like tha computer graphics. I have an HPI RS4 MT electric with the Novak 5800, and I think it is pretty fast. I can't wait to see more of your project.

yeah, i've seen that before.. there's also two nitro MT2's that were converted to brushless on the URC boards.. camel_rc's is what made me decide to do this..
http://www.ultimaterc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=54092
the same day i saw that thread, I started placing bids for mt2's on ebay ^_^.

I've never bashed with anyone from these or showme boards, because my vehicles were always being worked on.. that's why I decided to sell all my cars, and focus on one primary vehicle.. it's been over a year since I've run an rc car, but I've been building ideas for projects all this time.. time to get something running and bash with you guys..

nice to see you on the boards DualBL. I'm glad your bringing your RC knowledge over here, it's very appreciated.

Keep up the awesome work!

You should come out to the Berwyn Bash Oct.29th even if you don't have a RC to bring. You'd still have a ton of fun I'm sure

we'll see..

as for my design..
just kind of tinkering.. chances are, I'll have lighter braces instead of the heatsinks on the lipos.. (serum)

I'm not sure if my buddy can cut chamfers on all the edges though... but if he can, I'll do it, cause it looks sick..

quick chassis render:

higher quality render.. perhaps ill anodize it?

animation w/ and w/ out topdeck, and inside heatsinks.. i was just tinkering :W:

eh?

*edit
8am, didn't sleep...
better, or worse?

i have to start trimming the weight before I add anything else =\

..

i wanted to try my own design on the top deck as well.. and got went a little overboard..

alot of the cutout angles are too small for a 1mm bit to cut out =\
oh well, was fun..

and here's a wireframe for fun as well..

I have a 5' x 12' 3 axis flatbed CNC machine at my disposal. Let me know when you're ready.

I'm good friends w/ Andrew of ColdFusionRacing, he cuts everything for me.. like my rustler chassis I designed for 16 cells thanks for the offer, but I've been working w/ him for years.
