Junkyard purchase...BMW content - 06-19-2009, 02:35 PM

So cruising through Sycamore's B&O junkyard, sat a little '74 2002. I call it Mr. RustBucket. Upon inspection, it's rusty, no clutch, old varnished gas and flat tires. Oh well, I purchased junk before so this time would be no different.

Dragged it home, filled the tires up with air, bleed the clutch and changed the plugs and fluids....it ran...and drove!

So I pulled off the safety bumpers, added the turbo flares, new headlights and a quick cleaning. The gas tank is rotted, but i'm using a boat gas tank. I just need to find one more wheel and then some new 13" tires. If I don't find another matcher for cheap, Ill go with some low offeset Rota rb's either 13x8 or 15x8 (depends on how much cash I have)

the end result i would like my car to look like this. I just have to get the front air dam. I don't believe I'll put any type of bodywork into the car. if I do it will be caked with bondo and some single stage paint.

This was just a quick project to have something for this summer. I'm still working on my 1952 Deluxe (which I have the motor in now!) Still having the october deadline

The gas tank/trunk floor is in bad shape. I'm just going to cut it out and replace the entire floor with some 16 ga sheetmetal and secure my tank to that. Only one quarter is bad but I put the flares on there to cover it. One of the shock towers is kinda bad but I'll patch it. Also, where the drivers right foot rests, it's rotted there as well... It's rusty. Macco is having a sale this month for $229 which I may slam the body work out w/ bondo and send it over.

If I can keep everything under $3k for a summer cruiser I'll be happy. I just ordered a set of sportmaxx wheels with a 3.5" lip today.

I only expect to get 1-2 seasons out of it.

*UPDATE*

I have the fuel cell in, but I just need a 90* -8an fitting, right now I'm just running off a small tank.

Wheels and tires are on and cleaned out the carb, but I can't get the choke to work properly. I think it's the type that you put the pedal all the way to the floor to engage the choke- atleast it looks like it.

one other thing is I have the four piston front calipers and one of the pistons is hanging up on me. Autozone has them

The last thing I need to do is give 'er a good cleaning

Quick update.

It's been driving just fine, I still need to replace one caliper. But it's good enough to drive around my hood. I may put it up for sale since I really want to get my 52 done and get a 240sx.

here's an incar pic

I set up the camera to take a longer exposure picuture. If you have a point and shoot camera, you can adjust the ev values to keep the shutter open longer. but when you do this, more light comes in and like the above picture it gets blown out. It's best to do it very early in the morning or just when the sun is going down.

I used a tripod set up in the back seat, and set the timer to avoid some shaking.

I want to make a rig that mounts to the out side of the car and have the camer about 8ft away to take some rolling shots. I just need to get some super duty suction cups. I'm going to order a remote shutter release today for my camera, so once my rig is completed I can take pictures of myself driving my car

so, another quick update.

Two small pieces of trim (a rock guard for the wheel well) are worth upwards of $200! There's been two sets on ebay, one of which sold for $250, another that just started (he's a member of 2002faq.com) So i'm going to wait to list it as not to compete for bids.

Also I have a BMWCCA badge that's super rare because they are now BMW CCA (there's a space). I'll ebay that too. It may turn out that from a few pieces that I was going to take off anyway, may actually pay the initial price of the car.

I really like the way it looks with the new wheels. Old Cars with New Parts really have a nice look.

LSP lots of Khz, Werks .28 8 port.

Revo 2.5, TRX 3.3 Engine, Center Diff. Fast and Turns on a dime.
