Introducing Green Tee - 10-08-2008, 10:40 PM

I'll just "quote" what the O.P. on NAXJA.org posted about the project. Check out the vids he posted too, all is work safe, but you do need Quicktime to view the vids.

I happened to have a '27 Model T fiberglass body and a basic frame, that I was going to build a hot rod out of. As I started thinking, "hey, wouldn't it be cool to build it as an electric". We talked it over and felt it would be a great project but we both had other things going on so it was on the back burner. Well, the week before Labor Day weekend I met up with him at dinner. He asked if I was still interested in doing the roadster project? Sure I said. Then he hit me with, there is the National Electric Drag race in 6 weeks, think we can build it and have it ready to race? Umm.... sure?!

So 5+ weeks later we are coming up on the race. It's this Sunday and we are hoping to set a world record with it. My friend already holds a couple with his other car. Monday night we test drove it for the first time. Still lots of details to finish up but thought I might share this with everyone here.

I bring you... Green Tee, most likely the first '27 Model T electric roadster.

What we started with

A little over a week into it

About 4 weeks into it

Wiring up the motor. It puts out a max 450 HP and 1000 ft lbs of torque. We are running direct drive to the rear axle.

Batteries... a lot of them. They are Lithium Ion cells, combined for 290 volts DC at about 1000 amps!

First Drive this past Monday (I know it's not street legal but we needed to test)

Here is a quick movie (sorry but you will need Quicktime or another viewer that can support .MP4 movies)

There are a bunch more pictures and movies in my gallery. Feel free to take a look. Fingers are crossed we will have it ready for Sunday's race and hope to do very well. Enjoy. Lisa and Mike's Gallery :: Project Green Tee, 27 Roadster

I'll be suprised if that little T weighs in at more than 2000lbs with a driver....and maybe a passenger.

Here's an update on how well the race went for these guys!

This was an 1/8 mile track. 60' times were in the 1.7 range. It just hooked and booked! Some more testing with air pressure on the slicks and it will be even better. Okay, here are some pics. More can be found (including the build up) at Lisa and Mike's Gallery :: Project Green Tee, 27 Roadster Thanks for following along and all the support in the other thread. It does look like we set the world record in class. Just need to get it into NEDRA for approval.

I will get video posted once I have edited it.

Off the trailer and ready to go

Driving to the line

In line waiting for the first run. Sorry no pics since the wife changed over to the video camera. I'll post videos when I get them edited.

Here's Michael Kadie (co owner/builder) heating the tires up for his first run in it. Later in the day he took 1st in the burn out competition.

End of the day with 3rd place and very happy with the results.
