New truck from Axial. Looks pretty cool! - 10-22-2007, 10:54 AM

Its not a truggy, its not a buggy. In fact, it bares much more in common with a trophy truck than anything else.

As far as the trucks durability, don't know. I just think its a cool thing. I actually have a mutant that I'm building. Its a truggy chassis with buggy arms, mainly because I wanted something that was closer looking to a trophy truck, now i see that Axial had the same though and I will pick up their body when it comes out.

I saw it at the show and talked to them about it. It's based of the MAntis truggy with buggy wheels. It has a detuned version of the axial spec 1 in it. It will be sold as a RTR for around 400 to 450. I really like the idea and think the body is sweet! But all in all it's nothing special. They didn't really put much thought or innovative ideas into it. Still looks cool as hell though. Oh yeah, it also comes with a 5th tire that bolts to the bed. Can you say free spare?

Slay...I may be wrong, but did they also say the truck would be buggy length arms? Or did I mis-hear them on that? Did you hear that?

jim at bolingbrook had a class that was 2 wheel buggy with a body like that. kinda looked cool, stock electric motors and with a full body they really could bang into each other and not catch a wheel or a wing.

I thought I heard them say that too. Like what I saw but I just wish they woulda put a little more effort into making something innovative. When you really get down too it, it's just buggy with new lid! I will have one of those bodies though!

Mike, got any ideas for a sweet scheme for it? Hmmm I wonder if I could put it on an inferno gt? Maybe some badland and I'd be in business!

That big front overhang looks like it will take a beating, but you never know until you try!

The wheel wells will not sit well on a buggy chassis. Its based on a truggy chassis, though it looks slightly longer. The rear bulkhead looked a little different than the normal setup.

It will however fit on a truggy chassis that has buggy arms and tires. Which is what the mutant I'm building will use.

I like the way it looks. I've always liked cars that look closer to scale, but haven't found anything durable really. With this body I can complete the mutant and have trophy truck in my collection.

Personally, I am not bothered in the least by the fact that its not "innovative". Why try to reinvent the wheel for what essentially has no competative class, or market yet. You can't race it with the truggies, and you can't race it with the buggies.

Also, the 8th scale platform for buggies/truggies is already a stout setup that offers a good trade off of handling vs durability, and ground clearance.

I totally agree. After all, in the beginning the truggy was nothing more than a bastardized buggy. Who knows, maybe they will find way, as they did with truggy, to further refine this vehicle. Much the way the truggy has become it's own animal.

By innovative I meant it would have been cool to try and replicate the 1:1 version a little closer. But in the end it;s still a cool ride.

I never thought about the length. Good point. But it would be pretty cool if it fit!

What are you using as a chassis for your mutant? CRT?

Imagine a track full of these! That would look sick!!! You could rub a little paint without catching each others wheels!

Its being built off the Jammin platform. Probably from leftover CRT RTR parts on ebay. I put the buggy arms on the truggy one day to see how it looked and really liked it. For a body I used a Proline CP crt body. The Axial body will cover the wheels though.

I think the average truggy has a wheelbase shorter than the Axial br50 concept. But close enough that the Axial body should fit on a truggy using buggy arms and wheels. I eyeballed it against the Mantis when I was at the hobby show sunday.

Spec wise here's its dimensions. You can compare them with truggy/buggy specs.
BR50 Specifications

* Wheelbase: 362~368mm
* Track: 330mm
* Total length: 610mm
* Total Width: 330mm
* Total Height: 175mm
* Fuel tank: 150cc

So it matches the buggies for width (or pretty close). And its wheel base is about 3cm longer

Jammin Buggy specs.
SPECS: Vehicle-
Length: 15.75" (400mm)
Width: 8" (203mm)
Height: 5.25" (133mm)
Weight: Not listed
Wheelbase: 13.1" (332mm)
Tread- Front- 10.25" (260mm) Rear- 10.25" (260mm)
Front Track: 12" (304mm)
Rear Track: 12" (304mm)
Ground Clearance: 1.25" (31.75mm)
Body-
Length: 14.25" (361mm)
Width: 8.25" (209mm)
Height: 4" (101mm)
