King Headz 7075 Clutch Shoes - 10-16-2007, 02:19 PM

Does anyone have experience with these? I bought a set off Amain due to the King Headz name and good price. Installed with Xray 1.1 springs. They lasted 1.5 tanks! Actually broke up into chunks! I called Amain and they hooked me up and sent another set. Thanks Amain! They didn't have too! Anyway, I installed the new set. Gues what....same chit! Tank and BOOM! peices of clutch shoe falling out. I ran a new bell with a shim kit and new bearings. In fact it was all new down to the flywheel. Keep in mind, inbetween sets I ran a set of used Mugens I had and ran for days with no problem. I don't think it was anything did. This not the first set of shoes I've installed. Did I just get 2 bunk sets of shoes or what?

I'm not doubting that they are good shoes and I'm not trying to make Jim look bad. I'm just baffled! Like I said I put in a used set in between the 2 with everything else the same and no issues. then I put the 2nd set and same issue. The first set had xray springs and the 2nd set I used mugen springs. I'm not sure what I'm missing but....I would like to find out if I did something wrong so I don't do it again. Not cheap! But I just don't know what it is.

Are you using the little shims between the shoes and flywheel?

not using those shims would not cause shoes to disintegrate, i never used those little things never had a problem with any shoes. Never ran KHZ shoes but this sounds like a really strange issue I really dont know what the problem could be. post some pics of whats left of the shoes if u could

Yes I used the shims. I also shim to make sure there is clearance at the end of the bell. So when the shoes start to mushroom a bit they don't drag or get stuck on the flywheel either.

It was a used bell but I use a wire wheel on my dremel to clean it out. And I ran a set of used mugens in between on the same bell with no probs. The only thing I changed was the bearings. Which I usually do whenever I do clutch maintenence. I know mugen shoes are like 3 bucks more but I have NEVER had a problem. So I'll prolly just stick with them. I was wondering if it could be the clutch nut maybe not letting the springs seat right. That could maybe tweak the shoes in a weird way? Dunno but I'm out of ideas.

Not much too see but maybe could snap some shots. Basically the ends of the shoes broke off in chunks on one shoe and the other damn near spilt in half down the middle.

The main reason I run the shims under the shoes is because I'm lazy and can go a little longer before I have to do maintenece on them! LOL

And Mike I deburr them whenever I take out the motor. I've gotten pretty quick at changing shoes!
