What 1/10th Touring Car is this? - 03-02-2008, 10:58 PM

I got this from my father when they closed my Aunt's estate after my Aunt died last year. They were cleaning out the house and found this car. Knowing that I'm into RC cars they gave it to me.

My first guess is a Tamiya car, not sure how old, though its in BRAND new condition. The chassis looks like graphite though, not plastic. My 2nd thought is a Losi 1/10th TC but it doesn't match any pictures of the XXX-S I've seen.

Anyone have any ideas on what this might be? I charged up the battery and ran it in the house, its not very fast, maybe 15mph, haven't pulled the motor to see how many turns it is. However I do know its a 75mhz FM tx/rx, Novak Explorer 2 esc, and its got a 1500mah pack in it.

And yes, it is missing a shock, but i have NO idea why it is.

NM, found a pic on google of a 1/10th TC that matched the pic of my car. Its a Associated TC3. Not a bad deal for me! Now to pick up a replacement shock for the rear of the car and find me a brushless system.

Novak Explorer 2, and a 27t Green Machine. Even if I bought a $35 Chameleon 2 19t modified I'd be good for a bit more power. Don't know if I will yet, after all, this is something I would be playing with at LHR's onroad track.

I also got an Intellipeak charger with it too. Not a bad deal. I'm also going to be buying a RC18R soon, or a 18b. can't decide if I want the buggy, or the Nightline 18R. A small mamba and a 2s lipo could be really fun in the office. lol. Jumping cubicles!

I'm bringing the TC3 to work tomorrow for some fun in the office.

My dad also told me he's got a Truck there too, not sure what brand. Perhaps a Rustler or 'pede on the budget side of things. Could be a Associated RC10 stadium truck too if he stayed with the same brand. Or it could be a Tamiya truck. I'll find out next week.

Well, its.....slow!

27t stock motor and 7.2v don't make for a very fast car. I know I could outrun it on foot without issues. I'm thinking a modified 17 or 19t motor is in the future, along with a 7 cell pack. Still can't guess as to why my uncle has the car setup missing a shock. I'm assuming one broke somehow.

But as far as I can tell it was never driven, the body was in pristine shape. No scratches, scuffs or anything on the underside of the chassis. Everything was super clean. Even the drive cups on the diffs didn't have any wear on them. The final clue, the tires aren't glued to the rims, and still have the rubber molding flash on them.

Cause I'm going to buy 3 Mamba Max Monster systems when they come out to convert my Hyper 1/7, Jammin Buggy, and Truggy to brushless power.

3 MMM = $900 + $Charger + $LiPos

I'll actually be bashing with NiMHs for the buggy or truggy simply because if I take a spill its okay. Found a place to get 3800mah 7 cell packs for $15/ea. VERY cheap, offsets the extra weight. 14 cells gives me 16.8v for $30 with about 15 minutes run time. And quick recharges, and no fear of busting a pack up. If I do, oh well, just buy another one.

The only engine I'm keeping is the Hot Mod 528xr and a 30vg, all of my other engines are going out the door. The goal is to be all electric in 2 years. Not a single nitro.

Something isn't normal. A well geared stock motor and proper batteries and that TC3 should be in the 25-30MPH range.

a few things to look at:

reset speed control

cycle the batteries

is something binding? Check the pinion/spur gear mesh

bearings rusted?

Take the pinion off of the motor. The car should roll a long way on the ground with a slight push

Its fine, nothing is binding. Its just slow. Cheezy green machine 27t motor, and a crappy 1500mah shark battery, its about what i expect.

Not like I'll keep this system anyways. Would much rather run a brushless in there.

That's the perfect chassis for the Trans Am class. You could convert it and race at The Track in Winthrop Harbor, Strictly RC outdoor track, Underground RC, and Hobbytown St. Charles parking lot track.

If you are still in Buffalo Grove, Strictly's outdoor track would be the closest to you. Season starts in late April with races to be held on Sunday afternoons. There will be a ton of TA cars with racer skills all over the place.

Never been interested in racing. The only time I hit a track is open practice. Don't like class limitations. If I want a insane brushless car I'll build it, but not really interested in spending the money or time to stay competative in RC racing, or even 1:1 racing for that matter.

Well if you are ever interested, the Strictly Sunday program starts at about 10:30am. Open free practice. Races start at 1pm. There is a possibility the Track will be up all day Saturdays for open practice. No charge.

If you are thinking about selling the TC3 there's lots of people looking for an affordable chassis to make a TA car out of.
