LoL! This is funny, CNC Machined Carbon Fiber?! - 10-01-2006, 09:06 PM

Umm....last I heard Carbon Fibre wasn't "machined" at all.

Am I stupid and missing out on something or does this guy not have a clue?

Computer Numerically Controlled milling machines. Thats what he used to make the cuts and drill the holes. Makes it so all the parts are the same.

Huh... I have a Jammin FTE buggy and it comes wit a carbon fiber radio plate, top plate and center diff plate... Wonder why hes makin them?

I guess just to sweeten the deal on crumby carbon fiber shock towers... IMO not the place you want such a brittle material... JMO

CNC I know, but "machined" is a term I usually only hear in reference to metal work. It just seems so funny to hear it that way.

I wouldn't buy CF for the shock towers anyways. By the time you make it strong enough it'll either be too bulky, or as heavy as a milled 7075 aluminum peice.

well the tensile strenght on CF is very high, but it gets brittle alot of guys run the CF towers on the TTR and never break them. It is really superior to alum in most ways and I would have to disagree with it about being just as heavy, a 5mm piece of CF will never be as heavy as a 3mm alum and it will be twice as strong

Carbon Fiber does shear easier, and once it cracks thats it. And it does get brittle over time.
