from my personal experiences, the ofna chrome top/blue bottom boxes work really good for the price. I just sold one with batt/charger/power panel for $50 used...worked perfect. Those boxes are only like $65 new (minus all the extras) and usually can be found for really cheap used.
I bought one last year at Leisure's old track for $25 with batt/charger. Plus they have a huge motor and will turn over anything. WAY stronger than two 550's

Don't do it !!!
I've share one with my Bud and it has many flaws. The 2 550's are weak. The gelcell drains quickly and if you use the glow ignitor connected to the power panel it drains the battery even quicker!! It's only been used on .12, imagine a.21 or higher!!

Not a good choice in my opinion

Bruce, do yourself a favor and do not get one of the Duratrax boxes. I had 2 of those DT boxes, and the little 540 motors in them went south. There's no compairing the 540 motors to the large 12v motor in the chrome toper.

edit: An above post says they are 550 motors; they have a cooling fan on the armature. Still not very good.

I highly recommend you get the ofna too. I have the heavy duty one (a little wider than the regualar). It's also blue with the chrome top. The motor in that thing will turn over ANY rc motor!

that's the one we are all talking about Tune, the really wide one. Cheap and works good, can't beat it.

ah ok. Since no one mention "heavy duty", I assumed you were all talking about the skinny one. My bad.
