Be easy on the newbie - 01-06-2006, 08:49 PM

I'm a new member that has "played" around with R/C cars my whole life. I would like to get into racing but honestly have no idea on how to it. Any help would be appreciated. I would like to start in an electric offroad class with my Rustler. I am a newbie and would love to go up to LHR but I don't wanna make a fool out of myself. Thanks

I will give you one of my Student Driver stickers...and we can learn together. Except I'll be in Nitro MT novice.

See the Gallery for my picture and say Hello if you see me (us) at the track!

The racers here are the best bunch of guys you would ever want to meet. Helpful, friendly, and they'll even trust you to cook their food! Inside joke.

Come to The Snow Bash, even if just to BS. It's how I got to know the guys here.

Yes yes I'll be the newbie in the UMT class. Prolly get my Arse handed to me on a paper plate. All ya can do is just come racing and pratice to get better. Trust me I'm the crappiest driver there is. I don't think in all the times I have raced until this summer, I have never finished a race, and there was a few I never started, but I still keep trying.I'll be there sunday for my whipping but I'll have fun regardless.Look for me I'll be the bad driver with a GS SUT.

Welcome man! Come on out... everyone is super easy to get along with. The track is also fairly easy to learn. If you come out during a weekday it wont be too crowded and you can learn well. The best way is to marshall (flip RC's over) so that you can see the track and potential trouble spots. Then take it slow. A slow lap is better than crashing and breaking after going fast. Take your time and you will do fine...

Welcome to the boards! Hit up LH on during a practice night. It would be the best way to learn. No pressure to run good like on a race day.

just jump right in and start driving but be easy---def marshall as well.

You learn with the best and worst drivers. One things is if you are going to be lapped---let them by.
Really if there is a driver better than you--let him by or get out of the way.

You will get there in due time.

I use to race many many moons ago before my daughter was born---I just got right into it and before I new it I was running Mod class and bringing home trophies almost every weekend.
Then my daughter was born and priorities changed.

I stink right now but once I get out more and know my ride inside out--I too will be whipping my truck or bugggie around.

Ask questions---there are no stupid one for newbies.
Watch what goes on in the pits
Watch how other ppl drive.
Take it slow on the track first to get the feel for it.

Welcome and good luck

Hey, that was a good loop-back to some great info and it makes me ask a stupid question...

Is it still setup where if you pay to practice, and then decide to race, you only pay the difference ($15-$8=$7)?

edit: I got the answer to the last question, so I'm posting the reply here for future lookers....On days when there is no open practice, you pay the race fee even if you only want to practice. This keeps the practice drivers away so racers can prepare for racing. So if you want to practice on a race day, you can, it will just cost you more!
