Yea, you never get what you put into an R/C car/truck. I had an MT that I bought for about $160 used...put about $300c into it totaling $460 and ended up selling it for $184. If you plan on modding your car/truck do it for the fun of it and don't expect to get all of the money back when you goto sell it.
