freeride my advice for you is once your comfortable with the truck in practice put it away untill the qualifying starts. The only time i drive my truck is when i think i need to adjust something which isnt to often. Most of the time im sitting in the pits trying to figure out whats a faster line for myself. Dont try and go as fast as possible in practice either. Just take it really slow and get everything figured out for your lines, setups, line yourself up for jumps, ect.

Same thing goes for qualifying. You can push the truck more in qualifying but i still always try and take it a little bit easy in qualifying. Its just you trying to make good lap times instead of actually racing somebody. The mains is were you want to go all out and just try to drive away from people. That doesnt mean keep it WOT all the time but thats were you need to be the fastest is actually racing against other people. Qualifying is just to get lap times but the mains are were you actually race the other people. And remember if somebody is faster then you just let them pass you. Dont try to race them because you dont want to accidently take them out.

Just drive slow but consistant and focus on not crashing and you should be able to get a high placing and a good main position.
