It'll take time. I actually went to meet a different dog, Blu, he was a golden ret/lab mix of some sort. However my land lord was an ass and didn't want a "destructive" large dog.
Whatever. She's a good girl and is already bonding with me. She comes to me for comfort and wants to lay in my lap.
She's a good girl.
Still, I miss my Angel every day of the week. I can truly say I was touched by an Angel.
Through the years there has been:
Sasha, Tiger, Whitesox, Robin, Angel, Max, Nala, Speedy, Milo, Angel, George, Kay, Sysco, Minx, Bermuda, and now Nikki.
Its amazing how many pets my family adopted over the years, cats, dogs, rats, mice, ferrets, turtles. I miss them all. I still have a lock of Angel's hair sealed in a vacuum bag with her ashes. No matter how hard it is to see them pass on, its worth every second they are with me, even when they chew through the water supply line to the toilet!
